The nonprofit organization Arlington Artists Alliance (AAA) announces a new boutique gallery space scheduled to open July 18th. The Alliance Gallery, a 1,000 square foot space, is located at The Crossing Clarendon in the breezeway between SoulCycle and Chip City.
The space is donated by Regency Centers to showcase local artists. The gallery is open from Thursday-Sunday from 12pm-6pm, with free entry. All featured artwork will also be available for sale online at the AAA store here.
“The Alliance is thrilled to launch this space so the community can enjoy free access to professional local artists. As a top destination for shopping, dining and recreation, residents and visitors can now add culture to the exciting experiences available at The Crossing,” states Arlington Artists Alliance Executive Director Christina Papanicolaou.
The inaugural Alliance Gallery show runs from July 18th- August 18th. Entitled Ad Astra Per Aspera, this group show features Eleftheria Easley, Justyne Fischer, Pedro Ledesma III, Anna Nazaretz Radjou, and Nicole Tobin. Curated by Christina Papanicolaou, the show embodies themes of empowerment through textile art, collage, print, and photography.
The works confront a range of social and personal challenges, such as gender and racial inequality, the fight for self-empowerment, and the struggle to connect in the digital age.
"Arlington thrives as a community because of opportunities like these to experience the arts. Now local artists have an additional pathway to gain exposure and connect with community members. This opportunity to embed arts in vibrant community spaces through a public- private partnership is one we can all celebrate," states Adam Green, Chair of the Arlington Commission for the Arts.
An opening reception for the Alliance Gallery will be held on Thursday, August 1st from 5-7pm. The reception includes complimentary food and beverages, and live music. The reception is free and open to the public, with an RSVP requested here.
Later this summer from August 29th through October 6th, a juried show for AAA artists is planned, with local visual artist Yigit Cakar serving as jurist. This fall, from October 17-November 24th, another juried exhibition open to artists from across the region will be juried by Rosemary Feit Covey.
The Crossing Clarendon’s General Manager, E.J. Enciso notes, “We’re proud to provide this space to the Alliance in recognition of the role art plays in the fabric of our communities. The Gallery will further elevate this iconic community hub for all.”
The Alliance Gallery is located at 2700 Clarendon Boulevard, Suite 330, Arlington, VA 22201. Access via the Clarendon Metro station (Orange and Silver lines), with paid parking in two garages plus metered parking available.
