SPACE

Arlington Career Center Student Show

Dates: June 5 - 28, 2024

Opening Reception: Friday, June 7, 2024, 5-7 pm

Gallery Underground will host its third partnership exhibition for high school students from the Arlington Career Center. For this year's show, students chose to explore the concept of Space. “Space is where we are but also where we aren’t. Space is something we don’t fully understand but allows for so much possibility.” This exhibition seeks to challenge visitors’ perception of space.

Through mentorship of Arlington Artists Alliance staff and volunteers, 75 students will participate in developing and producing a professional art show.  Students will learn all aspects of art show production including curating the exhibition, designing promotional materials, framing, pricing, and providing inventory details to the gallery. Special thanks to Alliance members Reshea Deloatch, Melanie Howard, and Cherry Washington for volunteering at the Career Center in the lead up to the exhibition.

The opening reception will include live music by ACC student Julian Eichers and pizza provided by We the Pizza. It will also feature an informational table about ArtRx, a club at Washington-Liberty High School created by student Nadia Lachhab. ArtRx creates art and writing workshops for hospital patients of all ages. They volunteer at Sibley Memorial Hospital and St. Jude's Children's Hospital to support mental and social wellbeing through art.

Arlington Artists Alliance and Gallery Underground will donate 30% of all proceeds to the Arlington Career Center Art Department.
