Website:

Nicole Tobin is a photographer who paints and loves textiles and fiber, mixing all three in figurative works that concentrate on social, feminist, and political themes. A Kansas native, she spent her childhood on road trips throughout the United States often staring at the sky. Nicole has a BA in Russian and Fine Arts Photography from The George Washington University, JD from the University of Kansas, and Certificate in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has spent most of her working life in Russia, Ukraine, Brazil, and Mexico. Nicole currently lives and works in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

Using her background she uses mixed media to explore the feminine and feminist. Her paintings are multi-dimensional bringing in elements of photography and craft. She begin each painting by creating backgrounds out of fabrics, lace, embroidery, or sequins in which she quilts together in photoshop with the subject. She then paints with both watercolor and acrylic and brings in the handicrafts of embroidery or weaving, by layering it over the painting.
