My name is Guinevere Alexander, and I am a 23-year-old artist working primarily in mixed media and oil painting. While pursuing a clinical psychology major at George Mason University, I discovered a deep passion for studio art, declaring it as a minor and immersing myself in figure painting and abstract expressionism.

My work explores direct observation, human emotions, and imagined forms. I often use personal video footage taken organically as a starting point, capturing screenshots of moments that feel emotionally charged or compositionally striking. My interests in subject matter range from nightlife and the human body to fruits, vegetables, and sea creatures—all of which allow me to expand on texture and color. Abstract, nonobjective shapes are a constant in my work, frequently blending into my portraits as I explore the relationship between the imagined and the real.

I enjoy creating larger-scale pieces, particularly in mixed media, where I use found materials and let the process guide me. A recent piece involved repurposed cardboard, a mechanical pencil, and oil pastels, chosen impulsively and worked into a cohesive vision. The physicality and unpredictability of the materials mirror the improvisational nature of my practice.

At its core, my art serves as a living diary of my feelings and experiences. I hope viewers are drawn into the emotion and texture of the work, sparking visceral reactions or memories of their own.
