Sandi Parker primarily paints abstracts in acrylic, as well as oils in a variety of subjects. Her abstracts are richly textured, with layers of paint, sometimes including other media such as graphite pencil, oil crayon and collage, and frequently employing a scratching technique to reveal layers of color beneath and provide energy and movement. She uses a variety of non-brush tools such as palette knives, putty knives and sandpaper in her work. “My abstract work is influenced by the patina found on urban walls,” she says, “and I frequently include graffiti in my work.” She also paints impressionistic oil landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes, as well as youth sports portraits, and has a line of jewelry, “SandiSea Designs,” fashioned from seaglass. She has been accepted into and has won awards at many local and national juried shows, held a solo show of her abstract works, “Urban Edge,” in 2016, and was commissioned in 2016 for a large-scale permanent public art installation of abstracts in Crystal City, Arlington, VA, which can be seen at 12th St. and Army Navy Drive.
Sandi Parker is available for commissions of traditional paintings from photographs, as well as abstracts commissions.
