Exhibiting Artwork at Cassatt's Cafe

Selection of Artwork: It is our practice to change the artwork on display at this venue each month. Members are invited to bring in up to three new pieces (artwork that hasn't been displayed there during the previous two months), so that we may keep the shows looking "fresh." Members should check monthly meeting minutes for dates of show changes. Shows are juried and a selection of the artwork will be made among the pieces brought in by the members.

Envelope & Inventory List: Each member is responsible for providing a business-size envelope with her/his name and telephone number on the outside. Each month, provide a new inventory list of artwork provided for display at the gallery. This list is annotated by Alliance gallery workers as sales are made.

Bios & Cards: Most of the members provide a written biography for the binder at Cassatt's Cafe and at the Gallery Down Under. Many people, especially purchasers, like to know something about the artist. We also display members' business cards on the table in the gallery. This is not a requirement but a recommended business practice.

Gallery Assignments: Artists who wish to exhibit their art at Cassatt's are expected to help with hanging and other Alliance activities. Members are responsible for picking up their artwork on the day that the show changes.

Exhibiting Art At Other Alliance Venues

At the monthly meetings you will have opportunities to sign up for future shows, often months in the future. These can be solo shows or group shows. Each venue has a unique amount of display space. For instance, Pica Deli Gourmet & Wine can generally handle about 30 paintings, small to mid-size.

When you sign up for a show at these other venues, you are responsible for coordinating logistics and publicity. This includes tasks such as:

• Coordinating with the establishment hosting the exhibit to schedule the date and time to hang and un-hang the show (usually done to accommodate their heavy customer times) and ensuring you have what you need, such as tools and a ladder.
  
  
• Preparing a price list of the artwork, artists' contact information, with "Arlington Artists' Alliance" given attribution as the sponsoring group, and ensuring copies are available at the show for its duration.
  
• Arranging for postcards or other announcements.
  
  
• Sending out announcements by mail and email to your address lists.
  
  
• Coordinating with the establishment hosting the exhibit to schedule a reception (if appropriate). In some cases, the host business provides food and beverage, in other cases the artists must do so.
  
• Ensuring that the show is disassembled on schedule, to maintain the goodwill of the hosting establishment.

Please bear in mind that the goal of these pages is to provide visitors with some sense of the kind of art that Alliance members produce. The showcase page is not intended to take the place of your personal web site. For the images we use on your page, we list the name of the artwork, but cannot list additional details (such as price). The showcase page is intended to be a static page; we cannot rotate images as you produce additional paintings.
