Bud Hensgen

Bud lives in Arlington, Virginia.   His work has focused in two areas.  He works in oils when doing plein-air paintings and landscapes.  His abstract paintings are in acrylic and mixed media

His landscapes emphasize the dynamic forms and colors implicit in the outdoors.  His work offers a personal interpretation of the scene of the day on which he painted.  He selects a few simple characteristics of the scene before him and emphasizes them to heighten a specific mood or feeling.

His abstract work uses multiple layers of transparent and opaque paints, frequently with considerable applications of charcoal lines.  His technique sets up a tension between strong, compelling forms and a transparent, multi-layered background which suggests ambiguity and depth.

Bud is Vice President of the Arlington Artists Alliance and a member of the Art League.  His works are frequently exhibited in the Art League Gallery in the Torpedo Factory in Old Town Alexandria, The Art & Framing Guild in Clarendon, Virginia and in the Studio Gallery in the Dupont Circle District of Washington, DC.
